Black Mirror Reflection on Nosedive episode

  • We try to look good on social media and never post something real;
  • There is sugary and there is diabetes;
  • Fake-smile jail cells;
  • Comparing yourself to people (ranking);
  • Credit scores;
  • We lose or we cannot talk with some people because they think we are not good enough for them to be friends;

While reading Wired article I bumped into this sentence which made me think: “It was as if Amazon had swallowed eBay, Apple News, Groupon, American Express, Citibank, and YouTube and could siphon up data from all of them.” Now a lot of apps are trying to be related to one another or for example if you post one thing on one of the apps it automatically shows on the other, which I hate. Another thing that caught my attention was “ Their chief innovation was using computer-driven statistical analysis to translate people’s personal details and financial history into a simple score, predicting how likely they were to pay back loans.” It means that not just your buying history but EVERYTHING you do is being watched and if you do pay back for everything but post something innapropriate you cannot get a loan anymore. I do not know why it could be related but it is in China. Then, I come around this “ Because I lacked a transaction history, I immediately faced what felt like an embarrassing judgment: a score of 550.” Which means if you travel you lack transaction history, but now it makes more sense how China keeps their people inside the country. Would you say you see a lot of chinese people around? I would not say so, because they are stuck in China.

  • I hope it does not mean that all the world countries will make this social score thing. I think it would be a disaster, and people like travelers would be considered homeless.
  • If my country or any country I am staying in would decide to make this ranking I would travel ofcource by foot or bike because I would not have a score for a plane or a bus:)
  • I do not feel like my branding is related to something like it except that I need to target people that have money, to get my product.

A 25-YEAR-OLD BET COMES DUE: HAS TECH DESTROYED SOCIETY?

WHO IS KEVIN KELLY?             WIRED's executive editor and resident techno-optimist. Kelly had asked Sale for an interview. But  he planned an ambush... WHO IS PATRICK SALE?             Author; adored Luddites.  THE CHIEF CONFLICT BETWEEN THE TWO MEN            Kelly had just read an early copy of Sale's upcoming book, called Rebels Against the Future .  It told the story of the 19th-century Luddites, a movement of workers opposed to the machinery of the Industrial Revolution. Before their rebellion was squashed and their leaders hanged, they literally destroyed some of the mechanized looms that they believed reduced them to cogs in a dehumanizing engine of mass production. In early 1995, Amazon was less than a year old, Apple was in the doldrums, Microsoft had yet to launch Windows 95, and almost no one had a mobile phone. But Sale, who for years had been churning out books complaining about modernity and urging a return to a subsistence economy, felt that computer technolog

WE ARE NOW PEOPLE OF THE SCREEN

In the article  Reading in a Whole New Way  Kevin Kelly worries that devices like Apple's iPad nurtures action over contemplation. Funny, because I am reading his article on my iPad..;) In ancient times, authors often dictated their books. Dictation sounded like an uninterrupted series of letters, so scribes wrote down the letters in one long continuous string, likeforexamplehere. Text was written without spaces between words until the 11th century. This continuous script made books hard to read, so only a few people were accomplished at reading them aloud to others. Being able to read silently to yourself was considered AN AMAZING TALENT . Writing was an even rarer of amazing talents at that time. In 15th-century Europe only one in 20 adult MALES could write. Crazy to think that women did not have a right to read at all. Over time, by 1910 three-quarters of the towns in America with more than 2,500 residents had a public library. WE became a people of the book!       I do not kn
